Following a committee meeting in July CAP is now operative again, and hopes to publish an email newsletter shortly, and to hold a seminar in November on current issues facing architects and planners. As well as being one of the professional groups within UCCF CAP is also part of the Christian Workplace Forum initiative, which aims to equip Christian Workplace Associations to "make Jesus known in the workplace." To receive a copy of the newsletter, or for further information email info@capsite.org.uk. CHRISTIAN WORKPLACE FORUM Over the past year a lot has been happening on the Professional Group front and CAP has benefited. UCCF now has a part time assistant, who is shared with Clapham Connections. Dr Clifford Hill is the director of this organisation which is modelling itself on the Clapham sect (Wilberforce). This has led on to the formation of Transform-UK and the Christian Workplace Forum. A large number of Christian Unions and Professional Groups have been identified and are joining in with this. So CAP is now a Christian Workplace Association. The Parliamentary Christian Fellowship led by Alistair Burt MP have hosted a number of meetings at the House launching these projects and CAP was invited. John Phillips attended for CAP. He was also able to talk about CAP at a seminar at the Christian Resources Exhibition in May, and met with representatives of most of the nine architectural practices exhibiting there. John also attended the Faith in Work Conference run by the Association of Christian Teachers in Manchester for School Years 11 and 12, where he had an observer role, and the National Prayer Breakfast on July 12th again at Westminster. It is hoped to see a continuing CAP presence in these events.
CLAPHAM CONNECTIONS Clapham Connections' mission is for community transformation, "to work towards the transformation of society in which biblically-based values become integrated into the culture of society (and ultimately affects its structures) and protect the rights of individuals while promoting the common good and the prosperity of society in a global world." The organisation takes its name from the Clapham Sect, a group of Christian MPs, led by William Wilberforce, who campaigned for social justice in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is based at Moggerhanger House in Bedfordshire, designed by John Soane in 1791 for Godfrey Thornton who was Governor of the Bank of England. The Thornton family were members of the Clapham Sect. The estate was sold in 1857, and 150 years later acquired by Harvest Vision who are restoring it to its former glory.
